  • BITZ & PIECES

Not much going on here.  It has been a quiet week.

Ken is very happy, though.  He can now ride his bike again.  He really missed going for his early morning ride to the beach every day!

I am doing fine.  Pedaling my butt down in the basement on my recumbent bike!  I go to my main dr. on Tuesday for my annual physical.  I have been doing small projects around the house, too, and helping Ken with some of his.  Trying to keep more active!

One good bit of news we heard was that my only sis’s only granddaughter gave birth to a baby boy on Thursday.  Dana’s mom, Karen, is MY only niece–and my goddaughter, too. (Got that straight??).  I remember when Karen was born, I was a sophomore in high school, and was so excited to be her godmother!!  Now my goddaughter is a gramma!!!  Now I REALLY feel old!! lol  My sis is now great-gramma.  She must feel ANCIENT!!!  lol  But, then I realize about 6 of my grands are old enough to have babies,  and I know I am ALMOST there, too.

The good news is offset by not-so-good news.  Ken talked to his older brother the other day.  Warren had been having health problems for quite a while, but always managed to overcome them.  He had pancreatic cancer a few years back, with successful surgery.  This winter he developed a BAD staph infection, and was in intensive care for 16 days.  They didn’t know if he would make it.  But he did!!  Just recently, though, one of his lungs collapsed, and they discovered cancer.  He is now undergoing chemo.  He says he has seen 18 drs. in the last month alone, and has had enough.  He says he is ready to go “Home”.  He is such a wonderful Christian man.  After he retired, he and his wife would travel around the country with our church’s “Builders for Christ” program, helping our churches with their building projects.  He loved this mission.  Our son, Jeff, (the traveler), even came across their pictures in one of the churches he visited this winter.  Warren and wife, Doris, live 5 hrs. from here.  When we go to visit Jeff and family in LaCrosse in August, we will go and see Warren on our way home.  Hopefully, he will last that long.  It is too far a trip for Ken to take right now.

Back to a lighter note!  The weather is finally warming up.  We have had one “perfect” day, where I was able to take my morning coffee outside and sit on the patio.  Otherwise, it is still a bit too cool in the mornings.  I can keep the windows open now, but haven’t even brought up our portable air conditioner yet.  No need for it so far.  Another Xangan, MarmeeAnne, who live N. of Chicago said that Lake Michigan is 12 degrees cooler this year than this time last year.  Our lake breezes are keeping us cooler this year.  It is 74 right now—-perfect!!

Just thought of one more thing—not so good!  This morning Ken needed to go to the lumber yard for a 12′ length of 1×4 wood, to replace a rotted section of fence in the back of our yard.  We took the van to get it.  He threaded the piece of lumber through the back of the van up to the front windshield, and decided to turn it on end.  He accidently wedged it between the dash and front windshield, and broke the front windshield.  It looks like a stone hit it right in the center!  So, we have to get that big windshield replaced!  He felt so badly about it that I couldn’t get upset with him.  He certainly didn’t do it on purpose.  This picture was taken in the garage, from inside the van.

I hope the rest of the weekend goes better than this morning did!!

  • As an insurance agent … I have to say, “I really hope you have wonderful insurance!”

  • :sunny:  Well accidents do happen.  Something you can laugh at years later on.   have a great weekend.

  • Keep riding that bike. Glad to hear about Ken’s bike riding. Sorry about the windshield. Cheers

  • Prayers for Warren.

Tell Ken I know he’s feeling bad about the windshield but I couldn’t help but smile at my taking the PT today and bringing home a tree that would of poked any passenger, and it has thorns. An Osage Orange. (google that for fun)

  • Wow you really do have good news and bad news.   I hope you both have a chance to visit with Warren later in the summer.

  • Anybody who builds stuff has damaged their car at least once with either a tool or a supply.  Poor guy.

Prayers for your brother in law. Health issues can be so depressing and quality of life really is important.  It sounds like he is enough of a fighter to pull through.

  • Tell Ken I once left the driver’s side door open, backed out ot the garage and pushed out the piece of wall between the big door and the small one. It is the thing from which family stories are made!!

RYC. We have the same CD for that is the title of mine. I surely would appreciate a script. I will send you  postage in one of my handmade cards!!

  • Wow,  good news bad news is right!  Prayers for Warren, that he will stay comfortable and as pain free as possible.   Also that you will beable to see him in this life again.  What a comfort we as Christians have that we will spend eternity together!

I know how Ken feels, everyone once in awhile I do something really stupid like that!  I am so happy he can ride his bike again.  Here in Hingham I can sit on my porch in the warm morning sun!  We did have to turn the air on thursday night, it was really humid, no air movement at all.  But after spending the past two days painting my kitchen I was able to turn if off and open the windows again for a wonderfully cool night.

    Keep pedling!

  • A very newsy entry.  I haven’t been around Xanga so much…writing a little but not commenting much.

You’ve done some redecorating of your site since I last visited…I LIKE it.

I’m so sorry about Warren.  May God be with him and give all of you assurance and comfort.  I look forward to heaven too.  But I think I have some work here on earth to finish.

You’re doing so well to keep up the exercise.  It’s so easy just to procrastinate and do it “tomorrow” I need to heed my own advice.

I know that Val is really looking forward to visiting. Oh…how I wish I could be there too!

Speaking of being a great grandmother,  we’re still waiting for that 2nd gr. grandbaby!  C’mon…Great grandparents aren’t that ancient!:p:spinning::giggle:

You would enjoy meeting  the “mystery” woman.  I don’t think you do subscribe to her but a few of our mutuals do, including Val.

Take care and come by and visit more often.

  • So you live in Michigan???  Where a bouts in Michigan?  Our eldest daughter lives in Michigan.  We have visited Michigan.  We would like to visit Michigan again.  It’s a long ways.

The windshield incident is one of those things that happens and can really make us feel loved when our spouse doesn’t condemn us…. cause we are already condemning ourselves inside.  :heartbeat:

It is great to be “ready” to go home.  May Warren witness God’s presence in a radical way during this trial.  (amd those around him too!)

  • Well, OUCH!  That is alot of news.  I hope that Ken’s brother does well.  I’m sorry to hear he is going through so much.

The windshield doesn’t look too good, either.  Did you fix the fence, though?  Have a great day!

  • It’s not a bit funny about the windshield, but if it had been at my house I’d have been celebrating that he did it instead of me….LOL

  • Congratulations, great-great godmother!  See, you are older than you thought!  LOL

Bet he got one of those sick in the pit of the stomach feeling when that went through the windshield.

  • this was a good and newsy blog.  You really have a lot going on in your life…I am about to have to get my windshield replaced….A rock cracked it from a truck on the road on the way to the wedding, but now it is cracking across the front in a hook shape…

  • It makes me a little nervous that the windshield broke so easily!

  • I am sorry for Ken ‘ s brother . I hope you get to see him in August .
If I have well understood your graduate great great aunt and in the same movement great great godmother . Not bad , Nancy . Gongratulations .

    Love

    Michel
