  • Just a quick entry.

So many of you asked about the outdoor fireplace.

I went through Ken’s old pictures, and found this:

    1950's-mid- Ken building fireplace in folk's yard.jpg

He built the fireplace for his folks when he was still living at home—-4 yrs. before he came to Arizona and met me.

He said he thought this was around 1956, when he first started doing masonry work.

He did very well!  It has stood through our Wisconsin winters for 52 yrs!!

The hearth is cracked and deteriorated.  Ken may break the old one off and put a new one on either this year or next.

Ken gets a fire going and sits out there quite often during the spring and summer when there isn’t much wind, but I can’t.

Plugs up my sinuses terrifically, and the smoke is not good for my asthma!!

Day two of rehab done.  Went easily and quickly.

On Monday I have to be there a half-hour early—by 8:30—for a class on high blood pressure.

  • Well, I’ll just tell ya’ Kiddo……..WHEN you and Ken come to visit me, he can bring his tools and make me one of those!!!    I just think that’s a spiffy idea!!!

You were talking about the rehab being easy in your earlier blog.   That’s what I thought when I went in for my joints.   Heck, I hurt them LOTS more just trying to LIVE out here!!!

  • It seems that you are enjoying the re-hab ! John, my SIL built us an outdoor brick  BBQ very similar to Ken’s masterpiece. We have sat enjoying the warmth well into the night, complete with a glass of wine or two. Marie

  • Just read your previous blog and msut say that John’s fireplace hasn’t got such a great chimney as Ken’s has ! Ken’s is a work of art. Marie

  • Hey, that is how you can get Ken to come for a visit! He and Wil can add a fire pit thingy to the deck fish pond area. They would both stay busy and out of our hair and we could go to the outlet malls, Branson to the shows etc. I think that is a wonderful idea.

G-son should be up that way around the 14th. He says he will be here the 10-11 before he goes. Hope we can get up to visit him and possibly over your way in the fall. I’d like to come up your way then over to Duluth and possibly to see Val and then down to Granny’s but doubt that will happen especially if we do the adding on, new roof etc. I just keep on dreaming!!!

  • As Mum said John built a BBQ for them, I love sitting by a open fire

  • I figured Ken had built it, but WOW – he did a great job!  Bet he never thought, back then,  that one day he would be using it.

Love those chairs in the picture, too.  We had some like that, a long time ago.

Tell us if you learn something new about the BP!

  • Looks a lot more country than in the recent photo.

Wow! Mom had to stay an extra hour every Wednesday for her rehab classes. Two were food and nutrition and I was allowed to attend, as well. I don’t know what the others were.

  • 52 years…gosh!

  • I admire your dynamism Nancy and sometimes I wonder if I should not do like you .
You know I am like Ken , I love the fire in open air and remain sit to dare it . I feel my rural roots . For instance I liked make a fire of dried branchs from the hedges  and dried leaves in my veggie garden but we have not the right to do this anymore .
    Much love

    Michel

  • Okay, that fireplace is as old as I am!  We’re both still looking good!  LOL  I love to sit by the fire it is so relaxing, Val and I plan on having a fire in the fire place in Gatlinburg next week.  Sitting by a fire is so conducive to good conversation.

I’m glad rehab is going well for you.  Dan’s mom’s BP is much lower since she went to the Nursing home and had a better diet and more exercise!

  • What a great place to relax on a cool day! Ken is quite talented even in the beginning of his profession, I see. There is something about watching a fire that is so relaxing, as long as the fire is small and contained.

  • Sure glad you popped in as xanga won’t send your entries to my mail with the rest of them.

    Doug Day May 21st !

Ken come build me a fireplace OK? Could grill in summer and winter.

  • Glad you are doing well in rehab being absent for so long I have rather lost touch with peoples immediate things i hope ken is also better as I think he was ill as well way back a bit Enjoy life anyway Love Marj:sunny:

  • About Odd Thomas: yes, I do remember the first book even though it has been awhile. I normally wouldn’t remember so much, and would be like you, where it kind of comes back in bits & pieces…but for some reason Odd Thomas really stuck with me. I really enjoyed it, so I remembered it more specifically.

  • hope you are doing, thinking of you!!!:coolman:

  • that’s a really nice outdoor fireplace.

  • I’m inviting myself over sometime this fall and I plan to sit by that beautiful fireplace built by a skilled artisan and just luxuriate in your cool Wisconsin air.

Ahhhh.  I love the scent of burning leaves and some hotdogs roasted on the fire.

You are a busy lady.  Classes for bloodpressure?  Doesn’t sound really too interesting.  Will you be getting reading assignments and homework?:giggle::giggle:

    :sunny::sunny::sunny:

  • I remember that you had mentioned that  Ken builds a fire and sits by it during many seasons of the year (I know, there are only 4 seasons, but in the south we have so many more, and I kind of think you do too)

  • Keep the good health going.  We used to have a firepit at home.  Dad made it

  • Hope you continue to do well in rehab Ms. Nancy Pants.  Are you starting to feel better?  Wow, that’s some masonry work.  Long time to enjoy an outside fireplace!:sunny:

  • RYC: you are so right about that dog house, sure is good training……
