  • THE BEST LAID PLANS????

Yesterday I was commenting to various Xangans that we had no plans for Easter.

Well, last night our DIL in town, Lori, called and told us to come over at Noon today for dinner.  Grand, Lydia, had made it home from her Juarez trip, and had pictures to show us.  Her boyfriend and his brother also came up with her.  Hadn't met the brother before, and wanted to see if he was as nice as the boyfriend.

This morning we didn't get up early enough for Sunrise service at church, but we did make it to the 8:00 service.  The kids were going to 10:30, and we would go over when they got home.

The church service was wonderful.  Since we usually go to the Thursday evening services, we don't get to see and hear the "special" things----like the choir, Jr. choir, Praise choir, or the school kids sing.  Nor do we get any of the special music outside of the organ playing.

Today, we got it all.  One of Lydia's classmates from high school is a VERY talented young man.  He is a Jr. in college, and had won a scholarship to Julliard in NYC.  He is winning awards all the time.  He plays the violin so beautifully, and also plays the saxophone, piano, and who knows what else.  Has a great singing voice, too.  Both his parents are music teachers.  Anyway, he played the violin before the service, accompanied by his mom on the organ.   One of the pieces was "Jesu, Joy of Man's Desire".  Absolutely soul-lifting.  Besides his playing the violin, we had trumpets and trombones playing during the service.  Had the Sr. and Jr. choirs, and also our new bell choir.  A very uplifting service.  And, of course, the church was filled---as it usually is on the holidays.  It is always better when so many voices are lifted in praise!

We came home from church, and I decided I had to take something over to the kids.  Couldn't go empty-handed.  So, I made a big tray of deviled eggs.

Right near noon, I told Ken that the kids were probably home from church, so let's get going.  I was just shutting down the computer when there was a knock at the door.  It was Lydia, her boyfriend, and his brother.  I told them we were just getting ready to come over to your house----what are you doing here????  Lydia said "Didn't Mom call you?"  I said "No".  She said that two of the little ones were not feeling well, and Lori knew we wouldn't want to come if there was sickness, so she was going to call and say the dinner was off.  Lydia and the boys came to show us the pictures from Juarez, and just to visit a while.

I sure couldn't figure out why Lori didn't call, until the proverbial "light bulb" went off in my head.  I went into my bedroom, where the answering machine is, and sure enough the message light was flashing.  I hadn't even noticed it when we got home from church.  If I had seen it, I certainly wouldn't have made all those deviled eggs!!  But, I sent them home with Lyd.  I know they all like them---and they weren't around to tempt me.

Had a nice visit with Lyd, Nate and Mark.  The 70 students who went to Juarez built two small houses in 3 days!!  The houses are very simple---only three rooms.  They are stuccoed on the outside, and only rough drywall (not even taped) on the inside.  There is electricity, but no plumbing.  They did install a ceiling fan, and donated a space heater.  Really fairly primitive, but much nicer than what the two families had been living in.  The 70 kids camped out on a gymnasium floor.  Not even able to take showers!!  The main sponsoring group is called "Casas de Cristo" (Houses of Christ).

On their way home they had to come a different way.  Normally, coming from OK city they would head to Tulsa and then St. Louis.  But, with all the flooding in Missouri, the bus went straight north from OK City up through  Kansas and Iowa to Davenport and over.

Lydia even brought us a present back from Mexico.

A serape.  The color matches my recliner perfectly!!   Thanks, Lyd!!!

After they left, I prepared the meal we originally planned,  before Lori had called last nite asking us over there.

While we were eating, we looked out the window and saw this.

    SNOW!

It lasted about an hour--off and on.  It didn't really stick, though.  You can see we still have some areas of snow around, but more and more grass is showing through.  My tulips and daffydills (they are "daffy" for coming up so early) are peeking out on the south side against the house.  The other planting bed is still under at least a foot of snow.

Grandson, Silas, just dropped off the empty deviled egg tray on his way back to college.  He has about a 4 hr. drive ahead of him.  He will drop off his girlfriend at Madison on his way back to Plattville.  Last night he was on our side of town---where his girlfriend lives.  Right  near her house he hit a deer.  Just a small one, and it was right in town, so he wasn't going fast.  He just dented in his front bumper a little more than it already was!  He called the police, and was able to claim the deer.  They  butchered it last night.  Son, Greg, was happy about it, because he doesn't get to go hunting anymore.  They miss having venison around.

Well, this is one looooooong blog.  Hope you made it all the way through without taking a nap.  I figure this makes up for at LEAST 3 regular blogs.  So I won't have to write again for quite a while!!!!!  lol

I hope you all had a wonderful holiday.

  • Awww, I'm glad you had fun today I have no plans on Easter Sunday because my relatives are in california and we have no time to travel :) But I'm happy to relax since college starts tomorrow. I want to see SNOW TOO! it snowed in the mountain but I didn't got a chance to see it since its not that noticable from our house. Thanks for everything!

  • Well, WHAT A NICE DAY it turned out to be for you!!!   Deviled eggs, huh?   That's what they always tell me to bring too......and that's what I took today too.

Sounds like those kids had a nice trip too, and VERY helpful for those folks with the new house.  A trip, I'm sure, they'll never forget.

  • Road kill.  Ugh!  Can you tell I'm a city girl?  Too bad about the sickness over there.

  • Too bad you didn't get to go over but know they remembered you weren't there when they ate the eggs. That's always a crowd pleaser here too but didn't do any for today and don't know why. Always think of them at reunions and church dinners.

I'm just worn out so didn't post this afternoon after everyone left but will try to get to it sometime tomorrow. I do plan to swim in the morning if I wake in time. The Amish girl comes for the day tomorrow. Think we will clean the kitchen cabinets too and do some yard work. I plan to keep her busy for the day. She gets to keep the money.

  • :sunny: Happy Easter

    Cheers Marj

  • What a lot of changes you had yesterday , the serape is very colourful

  • Sorry the plans didn't work out, but you still had some excitement. Easter services are always so special. Yvonne is always after me to "check the messages." I'm just not programmed to do that I guess.

  • Most of the time I just can't get to my messages, the company has tried to get it right twice, but it still acts like it has taken the message, but nothing comes out when I try to access it.  Most everyone who matters calls my cell anyway when they can't get my landline.

I am glad you had a good day and got to see the photos.  Nice serape.    Good you have a bell choir.  That is a welcome addition to a service.  Our choir sang the "hallelujah Chorus" at the end of the service, it was soul stirring.

I made deviled eggs and left them when I left.  They will send the dish back.

Snow is beautiful, but I am not sure I want to see any this time of year.  Things are blooming here like crazy and a freeze is predicted for tonight.

Tell Ken it is time to come into the house...ha!

  • My answerphone is in the back living room which I rarely use so I am always forgetting to check it Your day of changes turned out well for you in the end which is good. Our church was packed to the rafters too which made the singing of happy hymns more meaningful. The wind is still freezing cold here but warmer weather is forecast for later in the week. Marie

  • Love that blanket over the leather chair!!:sunny:

  • WOW, I would have loved to have heard the young man at his performance at church.

My nephew Jon went to Mexico with his church to build houses during their spring break too.

My nephew Shane (living in Madison) went to Chicago for Easter.

WOW (again), SNOW on Easter?!  Who would have thunk!  Heh heh........I'm enjoying the spring weather here in CA but we are expecting rain this weekend.

    Take care of yourself!

  • Nothing like snow on Easter

  • I'm so glad you had such a unexpected and surprising Easter. Sometimes the best things happen when we aren't expecting them. I missed a message on my machine the other day, and it is in plain view in the kitchen. Will this winter EVER end?

  • Mim!  It's so nice to hear from you again!!:sunny:  And you certainly must have had a wonderful Easter holiday!! Your blog entry sounded just great!!:goodjob:

    ....Stanelle

  • Things do have a way of changing around...but sounds like it made for a lovely Easter

  • It sounds like you had a fun Easter.  One to remember.  This is the earliest that Easter has come.  And March in the Great Lakes area is always very "iffy"  I remember Easters that were later and we drove in icy conditions (when we lived in OH)

John was worried about how our Florida car would feel since "it" had never experienced snow before.:giggle::giggle:

I'm not writing as much on Xanga lately either.  I don't feel very alert mentally.:sleepy::sleepy:

    HUGS to you.

  • Many things happened on this Easter Sunday ? Besides the up lifting service at church you had the visit of Lydia who looks very kind ..
Snow is still there . Here it is cold and on Easter the Grandchildren had to wear warm coats for the egg hunt .
The 70 students made a great job in building those little houses for^poor families . Great !
    Love
    Michel

  • I am the worlds worse about forgeting to check the answering machine--sometimes when I go to bed at nite I will see the light flashing and get back up and see what I missed !!RYC-I will have to see about Bonnie making me a gnome header !!

  • I didn't get to go to church this Easter.  Probably the first time in my life.     I sure did miss it.    I love all the bright faces, bright new clothes, and all the allelujias.    All the hope.

Thanks for the comments left a the Edge.     Your comment about my profile pic tickled me.  Notice how I positioned my hand to hid my "wattle"?   Try it sometimes when someone snaps your pic.    Prop your chin on your hands or casually place your fingers on your chin.     It's not cheating, only covering up!  LOL
