The temperature is 77.
It is an absolutely gorgeous Memorial Day here———
and I am stuck in the house.
ALLERGIES
Big time!
It is our first truly warm day here. I did go outside this morning for a short while.
I hosed off the patio and the table and chairs. They were yellow with pollen from the birch tree.
Now I am paying for it with itchy eyes and sinus drainage. On Friday I couldn’t stop sneezing. I take three different meds for this, and they can’t cover the symptoms at the height of the season. I wear wrap-around sunglasses that fit fairly tight to my face, in order to keep the pollen out of my eyes as much as possible.
On Thursday and Saturday we went and bought all of our annuals and got them planted. Love the splashes of color around the house and yard. I Always feel like summer is here when they get planted!

Ken is doing just fine now. His swelling is going down, and feels almost 100%. He just complains about not being able to ride his bike. He walks more, but that bothers his bad hip. The biking was perfect exercise for him.

Son, Jeff, (the traveler) called yesterday. He was on his way to work at the golf course in West Des Moines. He said he is really enjoying the job. He said it is relatively easy, and the other guys are good to work with. He does most of the layout and computer work, and not too much of the installing of the signs, except when they need extra help. For some reason, the main company ships a lot of the larger signs from Ft. Lauderdale. Jeff has had to drive down to Kansas City, 3 hrs. away, to pick them up. Some are flown right to Des Moines, though. Don’t know why they can’t all be flown to Des Moines. Didn’t get into that. He will probably be done on June 3, and then they will come back up here to WI—LaCrosse, where they lived before—-for the summer. Since he is enjoying this job so much, I am sure he will continue doing other tournaments for the company in the future. He is hired as an independent contractor, so I think he can pick and choose when he works for them a little bit. Didn’t get to talk about Judy or the kids because he had just arrived at work and had to hang up. (Yeah, he is one of THOSE who drive while talking on his cell phone!!!! lol)

Have you tried a chiropractor for allergies? They can do amazing things. Lotsa stuff used to make me sneeze, until I saw the chiro guy.
I don’t know why but your last post didn’t show up on my subscriptions dealy so I missed it. Went back and read it so got caught up. If Wil had done the bleeding thing with his surgery they told me he would be dead in 3 minutes and then sent me 100+ miles home with him!!!!
Glad Ken is doing so well and so sorry that you are going through all this again as you do every year. I can’t believe that with all the things they can do now that they can’t stop the allergies. Wil took me down to look at the garden in the field where we have to drive through all the “headed out” fescue hay and the pollen was all over us. I had some stuffy nose and itchy eyes over that but so far I haven’t had any real problems this year. Of course we are soooooo wet here compared to this time other years.
Know you will be happy to have Jeff and his bunch within “visiting” distance. Our son and g-kids fly into KC Wed. afternoon but we won’t see them until the 7th or 8th depending on whether or not I can get Wil to overnight in KC the 7th. My nephew has a reception for the wedding that took place back in the winter on the 7th and the kids have something going on the 8th but we could overnight and visit with friends in the area Sunday. Have to see.
We are both watching a PBS special for Memorial Day and sniffeling through it. Wil just said it was very good but he didn’t think he could take too many of those type programs.
The kid’s pics are so good. Not hard to tell they are sisters!
Take care of yourself and keep posting. I sure miss you when you don’t let me hear several times a week.
P.S. To explain…the son and kids will be coming home with us the 8th so we need to be there to pick them up.
Don’t want to make you feel worse – but my allergies have got way up as I get older. Now I can’t use perfumed washing powder/fabric conditioner/any sort of ” smellies”. I ” adopted ” Damian’s cats when he got divorced and I think they too cause me coughing/sneezing problems. Good news about Ken and the travellers as it’s been a miserable public holiday your news cheered me up !

Icky allergies – I hope you can get them under control.
Glad to know that Ken is on the mend. It seems that Jeff has got himself a new career that will help him travel about
Have a wonderful Memorial Day. God Bless. Judi
I didn’t take anything today but I am sure I will by tomorrow, if not tonight. My eyes water so much I can’t see sometimes. It does seem worse every year. That yellow pollen is deadly stuff!
Glad Kn is feeling better. Hope he doesn’t have to wait much longer to bike. Do you ride with him?
Sounds like Jeff has the perfect job set of job skills! He is making some great contacts all over! How great they can come back to your area for the summer.
It was absolutely gorgeous today! Too bad it will be “cold” again tomorrow. I don’t have allergies (lucky me) but Dan and his whole family have them. We had our annual Memorial Day parade and the church sponsors a run/walk before that so it is always a busy morning. Planted the front pots this afternoon.
Glad Ken is doing well. He’ll be back on his bike soon.
That job is perfect for Jeff. Does he get free tickets to the events?
awwwwwww….dumb allergies! but its still spring so maybe you can enjoy the summer allergy free! it rained here today but the weekend was beautiful!
so glad Ken is doing better ! I think by summer you both will be enjoying everything much more! Yay for the travelers! are they coming to stay for the summer or just a few days and moving on?
Take care and God bless you both! ((((HUGS))))
Just stopped in to say, hi and Happy Memorial Day. Sorry you aren’t feeling well. My husband has bad allergies also. I pray tomorrow will be alot better :goodjob:
Sorry to hear about your allergies. Do they ease up during the summer? I remember one place I had allergies only in the early fall. Now I have a sinus reaction to rainy days (barometric pressure?), but I’m not sure that’s actually an allergy. Rainy day allergies wouldn’t be so bad, but this is Oregon! I hope you have lots more days like today, minus the pollen so you can get out and enjoy them.
Allergies can be so sneaky. 4 a.m. Sunday morning vertigo hit me and I know it is nothing more than allergies as I had horrible pnd. Sometimes I’d rather sneeze it out.
Maybe Jeff has a no hands cell. That’s what our son has.
