  • Just a quick update.

Ken had his surgery.  Thank you all so very much for your prayers.

The surgery turned out a little different than expected.

The TURP part of the surgery was as expected.

But the hydrocele turned out to be a little more than that.

The surgeon found a spermatocele.  Normally they are relatively small.  Ken’s was the size of a large orange or small grapefruit.  Actually, I am not sure if there really was a hydrocele at all.  The following is from either Web MD or Mayo—can’t remember which:

A spermatocele is a cyst that develops in the epididymis — the small, coiled tube situated in the upper testicle that collects and transports sperm. Generally painless and noncancerous, a spermatocele usually is filled with milky or clear fluid that may contain sperm.

Spermatoceles are small, usually less than a half-inch (less than 1 centimeter) in diameter, although some may be larger. Most of the volume of the cyst is fluid.

Spermatoceles are common, affecting as many as three in 10 American men. They typically don’t impair fertility or require treatment. If a spermatocele grows large enough to cause discomfort, your doctor may suggest surgery.

As you can see, Ken’s was a “little” bigger than the 1/2″ they normally are.

Tomorrow I have my cardiac rehab in the same hospital, so will go from exercises up to his room.  He PROBABLY will be coming home tomorrow–Wednesday.

I am going to bed early tonight.

    I’m tired.!

  • glad that is over and he can get on the road to recovery!  You take care of you also.

  • I’m glad that is over and it doesn’t sound like a SMALL problem at all.  Now it’s time for both of you to heal.  Hugs.

  • Wow, he must be relieved to have that over, and is looking forward to the “coming home” part!  I’m glad it went well.

  • :goodjob: on keeping us informed.  Your sharing makes me feel like I know you and we are close.  May  the Lord bring your man home soon and… better than ever!!!!

  • Not a thing I can add to the above comments. I kinda giggle at how easily we talk about things that never used to be discussed.

  • I’m glad the surgery went well. A grapefruit?! I’m sure he must feel better already!

  • I saw you talking about his surgery, but had no idea what TURP meant – finaly went and looked it up.
I am pleased to see all went well. My brother had almost the same around the same time too – not sure exactly what all was involved, but he is doing well. Just also has problems with incontinence which they did not exactly tell him about before. So embarrasing for the men to have to deal with that. Hope that clears up altogether for both of them
