Well, I got four new friends on Facebook----friends from here on Xanga. Thanks!
Last week, DIL Lori said that Sylvia and Louise would be playing in a band at church on Palm Sunday.
We never go to church on Sunday. We like the mid-week evening service, which is just like Sunday's, but usually not with the "special" things, like kids or choir singing, or the band playing.
But, I did want to hear them, so I managed to get up early in order to make 8:00 service. Since the band had only had two practices, I figured they were only going to play one or two pieces----WRONG. I also thought it was going to be the grade school kids----WRONG again. It was made up of all ages from the congregation. There were 22 people in the band, with Sylvia and Louise probably the youngest at 11 and 13.
We had no organ playing at all. The band played for about 15 minutes before the service, played all the accompaniment for the hymn singing, played during the offering, and played after the service while everyone was ushered out. Amazing that they did all that with only two practices. The girls said the hymns were easy, but it took a little longer to learn the other pieces.
I love it when there is special music like that. So uplifting!!
Later on, the kids called and said "Turn the oven on to 425". We are on our way. Less than 5 minutes later they were coming in the door with Papa Murphy pizzas. Had a nice visit. Silas's girlfriend stopped in for a few minutes, too.
Their oldest, Lydia, would normally have been here, too, since she is on Spring break. But she is spending the break down in Juarez, Mexico. No, not partying. 70 students from Concordia went down there to do building projects. She wasn't sure she would get to go, because she was on the waiting list, but she made it. I think it is wonderful that there is a waiting list to do charity work!! Especially, when these kids could be partying somewhere instead. She will be home for Easter, so am anxious to hear about the experience.
Do you all have Easter plans? I hope it includes worshiping our risen Savior!

I will be working on Easter but I will surely take time to count my many blessings and thank God for them.
#1. What is Face Book?
#2. You do still know how to post on Xanga!!!! I'm impressed. lol
The music sounds wonderful. Our music in our church is "very sad". Great preaching....lousy music. Some of the younger ones play guitar off and on but none of them really knows how and it is mostly noise. All the songs except during the 11a.m. service are chorus things. No harmonizing to them just basically one tone tune. I love chorus music and have lots of that sort of thing on CD in my car all the time but they do harmony and have a musical tune to them not that almost chanting thing that so many of the newer songs have. AND if I'm going to rant I'm going to do it up right...they don't repeat so many times that you just give up and sit down like so many of the new "choir" leaders etc. have them do. My cousin's old church did so many repeats of one song with very few words in the song in the first place that it just bored you.
I miss so much the music that makes the service for me and for Wil too. Our pastor is a good preacher. Just wish our tiny church had someone who could play piano and organ and actually knew the songs to lead them. Blessings on those that do what they can to the best of their ability and I certainly am thankful that they get up there and try. We do at least make a joyful noise.
There is music at all our Masses ( 4 on Sundays ) but at the Mass I go to there is a " youth " music group who are wonderful. One girl has composed hymns and plays the piano, the others are accomplished flautists, organists and violinists - a very varied bunch ! I will be at church on Thursday night, Friday afternoon ( after the Walk of Witness ) and of course Easter Sunday then to a Songs of Praise in Victoria Park. On Monday I plan to rest !!!!

I am working for most of the holiday, here Good Friday and Easter Monday are public holidays. I do love hearing music in church
Awww, thanks for adding me in Facebook! We're now facebook buddies! Have a wonderful week
I'm proud to be a facebook buddy too! We have a pretty good mix of old and new music in our church but we do have some older types who will not come if they know our praise band is playing on a sunday morning..... I think that's childish but oh well.... For me Music adds so much to my worhsip everyweek. I can't image a service without it and our congregation has been blessed with very talented singers and musicians. We'll be in church Thursday night and Easter Sunday. Becky and i will drive to Michigan to my mom and dad's on Sunday afternoon after dinner with Dan's family.
I will be going to Maundy Thursday and maybe Friday night. Then I will go to Easter Sunday. Our church has incredible music. Amazing singing and choir and instruments. Probably because we are in a small city.
I am glad that the g'daughter will be back in time for Easter.
BTW, the songs SunnyC was describing are called 7/11 songs, according to our old minister who said, "they sing seven words for eleven verses." giggle.
RYC: Yes I have heard of the LUBBOCK LIGHTS, but that happened before we moved here. I think that it was in the early 1950's when they were sighted.
great post; always nice to hear what you and your family are up to...have a great day! Yes, Easter, He has risen!!!

sage
