HAPPY SATURDAY!
I'm baaccckkk!...........
But will still not be blogging much for a while.
My computer arrived home yesterday afternoon.
It had to be reformatted.
Sooooooo-----
I have a lot of things to put back on it.
I made a backup at the beginning of the year on an external drive---just have to find the directions of how to get it on here. And first have to put on the software.
Fortunately, all my pictures were backed up on discs to the end of 2007, and any pics I took this year are still on the camera---just have to upload them again.
I must admit that I am happy with HP. I called Tech Support on Saturday night, around 9 p.m., and got right through. I could understand most of what "Tony" said, through his accent, and I had already tried most of the things he asked me to do. I had been doing something online, when the blue screen flashed, and then turned to black, with an error message, saying my Windows was missing or corrupt. Went into the bios and checked what I could, but my Windows was gone. I also used the recovery disc that came with the computer, but it doesn't have the Windows program on it---even though Tony said it should. I read in my Smart Computing magazine that unless you have original Microsoft Windows discs, you cannot restore Windows. HP does not supply them with the computer.
Anyway, HP sent a shipping box via FedEx. Received it on Tuesday. Packed the box and called FedEx the same day, and they picked it up an hour later. It arrived in CA Wednesday. And they returned it via FedEx overnight, too. As I said before, it arrived Friday afternoon. Since I had taken out an extended warranty, neither the repair nor shipping cost me a penny. The repair sheet shows they replaced a fan, some memory, and reinstalled my operating system.
They even e-mailed me each step of the way. Of course, without a computer, I couldn't read them until I got the computer back! lol
Either Greg or Lori would keep me informed about comments on the blog Greg wrote. I told him that he did very well----better than I do. He has a great sense of humor. Actually, both boys do. Told Greg he should start a blog. Don't think that is going to happen! lol
Man, did this week drag! I never realized how long the days are!! Without the computer to give my mind any stimulation, I took a nap almost every day, and went to bed about 1-2 hrs. earlier at night. When I would read for any length of time I'd get sleepy! TV was boring. Usually I am on here while watching TV. Without the computer, I'd sit and actually WATCH the shows. Since my hands and mind were not busy, I kept thinking about eating----very bad! But I did pretty good. Mostly because there wasn't any snacky stuff around. If there had been, it would have been gone!
Friday we went out--haircut, church, errands. Picked up a crossword and variety puzzle book to get my mind working again. The computer arrived about an hour after we got home.
----------------------------------
Talked to our daughter-in-law, Judy, today. The travelers are now in Sierra Vista, Arizona. Judy likes it because it is a smaller town. On Monday, Jeff will go to the two sign companies in town to see about getting a couple weeks work. If he cannot get work, they will leave SV later Monday or Tuesday. They want to go to visit the new Kartchner Caverns down in SE Arizona. Then they will make their way over to Texas. The campground they are at advertised wireless internet, but after Jeff paid for the weekend, he asked about it, and was told it wasn't working. So, no update from him for a while again.
---------------------------------------
Someone had asked me how our two granddaughters were doing with their singing. They each have such conflicting schedules that is it difficult for them to get together.
But, they did get a demo cd done. The local guy with the local studio set up an appointment for them at the oldest recording company in Nashville. Last weekend the girls took a trip to Nashville and met with the head honcho. He spent 1 1/2 hrs. with them, giving them good advice on how to improve. What they also found out is that it would take big bucks to work with this studio. Something like $35,000!!
Evidently, the girls had thought about spending the summer in Nashville, but aren't sure if they are going to go ahead with it or not. They certainly cannot afford that kind of money that studio wants. Don't know what they had planned on doing while there. It is a tough business to break into when you don't have money!!
They are making a video to submit to NBC for a summer reality show. It is similar to American Idol, but it features country music, and there is no age limit, and also takes duos or trios, too. Perfect for them. The show had been on cable last year, and they are moving it to NBC this year.

Well, this blog should last you all for a while. I DID get carried away, didn't I??
Now back to the boring, yet sometimes frustrating work of getting this computer set up again!
Thanks for all your nice comments! I really missed you all------a LOT!!!!!!!!!!
I felt like I was cut off from the whole world------well, MY world, anyway!

So glad you are back. I made such a boo-boo when I commented cause I got Greg mixed up with Jeff and posted something to Greg meant for Jeff. Is that confusing enough for you? lol I have missed you. Like the profile pic.
:goodjob: YAY!!!!!! welcome back!
Yeah...its horrible without a computer...what the heck did we do before we had them though!:p
you're lucky....don't ever get a dell!!!!!!!!!!!! when mine went it took them SIX weeks:eek: to get me another hard drive and then they gave me an empty one and I lost my Micro soft works (only about a $300 add on!)
anyway..take care and God bless you all ((((HUGS))))
Glad you're back! I'll try to blog tomorrow. The team is going to state for DI so we're Steven's Point bound on April 18 & 19. They did a great job and i think they would have done excellent anyway however, they were the only team to compete at any level with their challenge. There had been another team registered at one point but by this morning it was just us! Our elementary team is also going to state so that will be a lot of fun!
I'm glad your back. Having no computer can be a pressure
Enjoy rest of the weekend
We missed you, too! I'm glad you didn't lose anything important, and how perfect that you got to take advantage of an extended warranty!
I was wondering about the girls just the other day. I think it's so neat that they are still thinking about moving ahead.
Welcome back!
So glad to have you back!:yes::yes::yes::yes::yes::yes::yes::yes::yes::yes::yes::yes::yes::yes::yes::yes::yes::yes::yes::yes::yes:

Glad to hear the news from the intrepid travellers and I hope Jeff finds work Bright sunny day here but the wind is very strong- and cold. Get your PC up and running and join us soon.

It's good to have you back!
It sounds like you managed to get a winner with the HP. I must say the service sounds impressive. The turn around time seems very good - much better than the Dell small business packages (ie: when the systems have to get sent to the depot to be officially 'looked at'.) That turn around time is 10-14 business days. Which is really kinda poor since you're talking about business systems.
Maybe next time.. an HP!
Nice to have you back
you feel like you are missing all your friends when you are away from Xanga
You weren't gone ALL that time but I missed you nonetheless--I'm happy you're back!
It is good to see you update, mimiwi. Isn't it amazing how much we love being online where all our cyber friends live isnside our computers? A day without computers is like a day without sunshine.
We purchased a new computer last year and they only come now with Windows Vista as the operating system. I lost the ability to use all my old software like PrintMaster Gold (that is how I make bookmarks and greeting cards). I also lost all my old photo in WindowsXP My Pictures.
I like your new banner and your background colors. It looks like springtime in here. Yay!
My computer was in the shop but nothing was wrong with it. I love three days without it worrying about what was wrong.
Hesitant to put the rug back here for fear static electricity will shut it down again.
While in the shop the idiot clerk was playing with it and added HP digital image thing on my start bar. I can't take it off because I use HP scanner software and don't want to end up deleting any of that. I really resent people messing with my computer. I try to keep the start bar freed up.
RYC: Wil was supervisor over the maintenance people at what use to be the Bendix Corp. in KC. I think Honeywell owns it now. Everytime it gets "sold" things change for the retirees. Not always for the best. It was a good job and he enjoyed his work. He always told the kids whenever he had to work overtime or whatever and they had "other" plans, that everything they owned and everything they ate etc. came from Bendix. He was well liked by his men and his peers. I told him when he retired that his men may have asked, "how high?" when he said JUMP but that wasn't going to happen when only I "worked" for him. lol Maintenance isn't the janitorial part of the business. That is what I thought of when he told me he was going to be in maintenance. lol Maintenance was all the electrical, plumbing etc. Of course various crews under other supervisors took care of specific areas of maintenance.
I have had so many ask about the powdered peanut butter that I'll post about it rather than answering everyone individually.
They have taken us out of the storm area at this point...going to go south of us...so as I've heard said, "From their lips to God's ears". (g)
Nice meeting you!
