Month: March 2010

  • This will be a quick blog.
This winter has been so quiet-----up until the beginning of March.
My sister in Arizona had to go in for gallbladder surgery.  When they opened her up, they found the gallbladder engulfed in cancer, which has spread to her liver.  Removed what they could, and closed her up.  Her prognosis is that she has up to a year---maybe more if she opts for chemo.  She hasn't decided what to do.  She is 78, and my only sibling.
She has been taking care of everything regarding our stepdad, who is in an Alzheimers facility out there.  She said she would have to turn everything over to me.  That is fine---most can be done long-distance.  We planned on going out there to take care of everything whenever she said we should come.  She has been quite weak since her surgery, and needed time to recuperate.
Well, we are probably leaving this weekend.
Sis called yesterday and told me that Dad had been taken to the hospital.  His facility thought it could be a stroke or blood clot, since his leg was swollen to 3x it's size, and one side of his face seemed "droopy".  But he could talk.  Tests showed no stroke or clot, but some sort of infection.  He is getting heavy antibiotics.
But, today he refused to eat anything or to take any of his meds.  The nurse told Sis that it doesn't look good--that he might not make it.
Sis goes to get her staples removed tomorrow, and said she will go to hospital and talk to him.  Even though she is still so weak, she wouldn't forgive herself if there was a chance he would listen to her and she didn't try.  Her hubby will take her in a wheelchair to conserve her strength.  Dad is almost 95, and we both know he is ready to go "Home".  He has mentioned it several times.
I will talk to her tomorrow night after we get home from Lenten service at church.  She certainly doesn't need the added stress of all of this right now.
We will be driving out there.  I cannot handle airports anymore.
One good thing out of all of this.
Our traveling family is in the Phoenix area now for a few weeks.  They just finished up a tournament in Newport Beach, and their next tournament isn't  for about 6 weeks.
So we will get to see them.  Haven't seen them since they were here last June.
We don't know how long we will be gone---all depends on how things go, and what happens with Dad.
Please keep them all in your prayers.
I was a wreck the first couple days after hearing my sis's prognosis, but prayer helped me a lot---my own, and those of our family and friends----especially my Xanga and Facebook friends.
    I love you all!!
I will take my computer along, but don't know how often I will be able to get online.  My wireless isn't working on this computer.
Thank you ahead of time for your thoughts and prayers.  They are so very much appreciated!!!!!!!!
