  • First of all, I want to wish you all a Happy and Blessed Thanksgiving!!

I probably won’t be back on here before then.

I am in the middle of decorating for Christmas.

I like to have it all done before Thanksgiving, except for the tree, which gets done over Thanksgiving weekend.

It is just getting to be more of a chore every year, instead of being fun.

I love the way my tiny house looks when it is all decorated, though.

We always tease our local daughter-in-law, Lori, about being a grinch this time of year.  She dislikes all the commercialization of Christmas.  There were even a couple years she wouldn’t even put up a tree.  Last year they put up their tree early.  It was a patriotic tree—beautiful.

Last night I received an e-mailed picture from them:

Lori, with her own personal Grinch, and their decorated tree in the background.  I had a good laugh over that!!!

Had to stop to take a phone call from the travelers.

The tournament finishes up today.  Jeff was calling on their way home from church.  He was dropping the family off at the campground and then heading to work.  He will finish up tomorrow.  They have to have all the signage off of the course itself by tonight, because Donald Trump is having a big charity tournament tomorrow.

The other day he was out on the course in his cart, and went out behind the driving range for some reason.  He discovered another course there.  He was riding along, and a golf cart passed him up going the other way.  I think he said they waved.  A minute or so later, another cart came by and stopped by him.  The person asked if Jeff saw another cart come by, and what hole they were heading to.  Jeff told him he didn’t know the holes, but pointed out the direction the other cart went in.

After the cart drove off, Jeff realized who he had been talking to——”The Donald” himself—Donald Trump!

The travelers are not sure where they are going from where they are.  They will stay in the central FL area, because Jacob will be flying into Orlando just before Christmas.  Jeff’s next tournament isn’t until April in Valdosta Georgia, so they will probably just stay in the FL area for the winter.  It all depends on where he can find some short-term work until then.

Their Gretta, age almost 15, was just confirmed today.  Since they have been on the road, she has not been able to attend regular confirmation classes at any of our churches.  But she has been studying on her own, and the pastor at the church where they have been going in FL tested her and said she was ready, and he would confirm her. Some of our churches have “examinations”, where either before the church council or the whole congregation, they are asked many questions to be sure they are ready for confirmation.  Others have their confirmands give a speech which shows their understanding. This church does speeches.  Gretta had to get up and give her speech in front of church before Pastor’s sermon.  Her topic was the Good Shepherd and his place in her life.  Jeff said she would e-mail it to me whenever they get somewhere where they have hook-ups for the computer.  He said it was very moving, and she did so very well.  Wish we could have been there to see it!!  This is the first grandchild’s confirmation that either Ken or I have missed.

    God bless you, Gretta!!

The baby, Catalina is getting bigger.  It seems neither of their cameras work—-so no pictures!  Nuts!!  She had been a bit fussy for a while.  They said it reminded them of Jacob when he was born.  He had colic for several months.  Catalina is better now, Jeff says,  not so crabby!!

    —————–

Jeff said that Hannah had called them from Nashville.  She is the one who is working at Walgreens.  She is still in her probation period, but the manager has already approached her about becoming an assistant manager.  She would be third in charge.  He told her that they HAVE to do interviews, but that he wants her to have the job.  It will mean a $1.50 hr. raise, and she will be entitled to benefits.  Good for her!!

I didn’t get to ask anything more about their singing, though.  I know they were going to perform for an open mike night someplace one night last week.

    ——————

Well, I have to get back to my decorating.  This was just going to be a short blog—-and then Jeff called.

  • They’ll be in Central FL!  It’s beautiful here right now.  Just where will they be in this area.

I have to put up a tree.  John is a Grinch too.  I never even ask for his help because if he had his way, there would be no tree at all.  But I NEED to put up a tree for the sake of the cats.

I probably won’t be around here much either.

    Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

  • Decorating for Xmas sounds like such fun.  i will not begin til after Thanksgiving comany has gone home.  Will be to many bodie sin this little apt. to begin any tasks except Thanskgiving and the enjoyment of family and friends who we usually only see once a year.

  • here we do not start getting ready for Christmas to about 2 weeks before. The family seem to be having fun in FL.

  • I just had said to Wil that next week all the fall decorations are coming down and the Christmas going up. I am just tired already thinking about it especially since it isn’t for sure that anyone will be here or when or for how long this year. Oh, well, I guess we will just go with the flow. We will be with friends on Christmas Day. Calm and just older folk! I’m not even sure that we will do traditional dinner with the good china etc. this year. Have to see how g-son’s schedule is. DILove leaves Christmas Eve day for skiing in Vermont so hopefully g-son will come week before Christmas so she can be included. Things continue to change with son and family in Taiwan and now g-son in Duluth. Life goes on.

Glad you did well with your bread project.

Wil has spent HOURS putting up a spot light on his new flag and pole up on the hill. As of tonight when the light came on he FINALLY thinks it is “right”.

I’ll try to get a post written sometime tonight. Got the pain shot but the right hand still isn’t good.

  • Okay thought we were supposed to be able to edit comments now. You got half of yours and half of Fran’s. The mind is the first to go you know. Oh, me or oh, my!

Now I’ll continue on with your post. Guess other than the bread comment I did okay. giggle

I hate not getting to see the things with the younger g-kids that we got to be included in with the older four.

Wil also needs his own personal Grinch. Of course right now he seems to be Grinchy about just about everything and having to pull all the stuff out of the upstairs and deal with the painter Tues-Wed and probably end of the week too isn’t helping his attitude. If dau and g-dau come down this weekend they don’t know it but they are going to get roped into helping take down the fall stuff and at least help get out the Christmas stuff from the barn loft. That is hard work for me the way things are set up down there and it really isn’t safe either but…….

Monday Wil is going to work cattle so that day is shot but at least he will eat over at bestest friend’s for lunch so I don’t have to cook.

I sure do miss your posts. Seems they are few and far between anymore. I know other people have a life but I sorta make some of my Xanga friends part of my everyday.

  • I like to decorate early, too!

  • I don’t like to get my stuff out before Thanksgiving, but I am ready any time after that.  Of course, that is just when Husby and I are working the most, and so it sometimes doesn’t go up until so late that I don’t think it is worth it!  Now that I have my skinny tree it’s a lot easier, though.  And I don’t mind putting it up so much as I mind taking it all DOWN.

I just love how you decorate, and always admire your pretty Christmas things.  It looks elegant AND cozy!

  • Donald Trump! Wow!

I also think Christmas is too commercialized but I do still buy and make lots of gifts and decorate the house.
    *sparkle

  • Gee and he didn’t get Donald to sign something.

I started on the bay window, that is where most of my decorating will probably be. Can’t have the big tree now that we bought the new big TV stand.

  • I must be a grinch too as I don’t put up any decorations until two or three days before Christmas. I take them down after the Epithany so I don’t get bored looking at them for too long Good new about your family and congratulations to Gretta on her becoming a fully committed Christian. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving but don’t be away for too long. Marie

  • Alas, I no longer have the energy to do much decorating, but all I have to do is walk upstairs and enjoy what my daughter-in-law has done:)  I used to have a tree in every room.

  • RYC:  I have those same fears about the grandkids.  Had a neat happening in that area this weekend (I’ll relate it on the journal soon) that makes me know the Lord is just as concerned, and is taking care of the situation!!

  • I like the look of the house being decorated, but I need more cooperation from the rest of the inhabitants to do more than get the tree up and a few items here and there. I’m too disorganized to do it all myself.

  • I cannot let go this special Day without wishing you a happy Thanksgiving to you both , Nancy and Ken ,  also for the travellers and all of your family such Lori that you speak above
    Love

    Michel

  • I can’t imagine having a colicy baby in a trailer – where do you hide?

Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours!
