  • A Very Merry Birthday to Me.

Thank you for your birthday wishes.  I appreciated them very much.  So many special friends here!!!! And thanks also to Val (Valreads) for mentioning my birthday and putting up a link on her blog yesterday.

I had a nice quiet day, except for several  birthday phone calls.  Sat around doin’ nuthin’ all day!  YEAH!  (And no smart remarks from the kids and grands asking how it was different from any other day!!!!  lol)

Up until a couple years ago, one of my favorite treats was this:

Either Hostess HoHos or Little Debbie Swiss Rolls.

I stopped buying them because I could eat a whole box in one or two sittings.

Well, Ken stopped at the store after getting my birthday dinner—-Subway subs.  (Trying to eat healthier than the 2 Big Macs, super-size fries and large chocolate shake which was last years birthday meal.)

    He surprised me with this:

A giant Swiss chocolate cake roll.

    I accepted it gladly.

And it was ooohhhhh so good with the ice cream and chocolate sauce he also bought!

Didn’t hear from Jeff, though.  There was a call in the evening that sounded like a cell phone call that couldn’t get through.  There is a certain “hissy” sound I get when that happens.  It could have been him, and his battery could have been down, or reception not good enough.

Anyway, we have not gone down to the campground to see the baby.  Jeff checked with the owners about renting a cabin.  We decided against it.  No bathroom.  And we would have to bring all our own bedding and everything, too.  Just not our cup of tea at this stage of our lives.

So, they should be back in LaCrosse in a little over a week’s time, and we will go over there to see them again.  The AmericInn near them is really nice, and we enjoyed staying there.  Cannot wait to see little “Cat”.

This coming Wednesday we will be going about 1 1/2 hrs. away to visit with one of Ken’s sisters and hubby.  When they were here in early spring, Ken gave Linda a little gnome for her garden.  Since all gnomes look like Ken, we called him Kenny. (Does that sound familiar, MaggieTX?)  Now, Linda says we have to come visit them so we can see Kenny’s Korners.  She said her grands love to come and visit Kenny’s Korners.  She has made her front and back yards into beautiful garden areas, and when she isn’t riding her bike through the large park near them, she is puttering amongst her flowers and shrubs.  Every place they have lived, Linda has transformed the yard into a gardener’s paradise!  Kind of like Alice here on Xanga, along with her sis, Chris.

Well, I must get my rear in gear.  We are heading to church for the last Friday of the month’s devotional service.  I like this service because we do not have to stand up.  We sit alternate rows, there is no singing, and Pastor gives us communion right in the pew.  I have been having problems with light-headedness during church, what with all the standing and sitting and also singing.  Think it has to do with the different way I breathe while singing.  And, found out during my rehab that my blood pressure drops quite a bit when I stand up.  I hate to go to church and stay sitting and not sing!! The only other time I am bothered with it is when I am outside, bending over and deadheading flowers.  That one I can understand.

I had mentioned it to both my regular Dr., and my cardiologist, and they didn’t seem concerned.  If it is still like this in Nov., when I see the cardio again, I will ask him if one of my meds could be reduced.

Hope you all have a great Labor Day weekend.  We have our 3rd annual Kites Over Lake Michigan celebration in our town on Sat. and Sun..  It seems to be getting bigger and better each year.  Hopefully, we can get down there and get pictures again.  It was too crowded to get a parking place last year, and had to take pictures from the car while driving past the beach.

  • Must have some cake…must have cake….happy birthday a bit late, but I like stretching mine out over several days now.

I am giving up most flour and grain products in an effort to control the ulcerative colitis, so I will pass on it this year. Maybe a sliver for mine next month
